Welcome to The Cherwell School

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to The Cherwell SchoolA Centre of Opportunity. We invite you to get to know us.  We have all the advantages of being a large school in that we offer a very wide range of curricular and extracurricular opportunities. However, our two sites enable us to create smaller and more personal units within the whole school. This makes it easier to know, support and value each student; in this school each individual matters to us.

The Cherwell School celebrates excellent A level results!

  •  Number of A level candidates - 251
  • % Passes A* and A - 38.3%
  • % Passes A* to B - 65.5%
  • % Passes A*- C - 86.2%
  • % Passes A* to E - 98.6%

We are delighted with these A level results which are in line with our best ever performance. So much of this is down to the hard work and determination of students and staff, alongside the invaluable support of parents and carers. We are especially pleased with our % passes at A*-A  and A*-B which are both records for Cherwell.  Along with the overall headline figures shown above well over half of the year group achieved at least one A* or A grade.
As one of the largest and most successful state funded school Sixth Forms in the country it is fantastic to see so many students having done well right across the ability range. This cohort was made up of over 250 students and I am so pleased for them and for their teachers.
With results like these our students are very well placed to take up their places at universities or their career paths in line with their intentions; they were a wonderful year group, contributed so much to the school and have deserved their success.

The Cherwell School Celebrates GCSE Results

The school is delighted with its GCSE results. The vast majority of our students have achieved the grades they need to move forward into the next stage of their education and training. We are so happy for them.

In the first year of the new 1-9 grading system for English and Maths, we are very pleased that so many of our students have achieved extremely well.  We are also delighted with overall levels of attainment with some fantastic performances across the full ability range.

We have really enjoyed working with this group since they joined us in year 7. They are a wonderful group of people who have offered so much to the school both academically and more widely.

I wanted to thank the staff (both teaching and non-teaching) who have supported them all the way through.

We are delighted to announce the completion of the new South Site Central Garden. Due to the combined efforts of parents, staff, students and a local business (Hadingham and Kirk Gardens), we have been able to radically transform a once neglected and barren space into a thriving, calm, social hub for our students, staff and all our visitors. The significant effect the garden has already had on the atmosphere of South Site and the improvement to our students experience of school has been immediately clear to everyone.

The garden skillfully combines beautiful raised beds which double as seats, alongside wide, wooden benches and cubes which students can use flexibly to sit in pairs, small or large groups. Once bare & stark red brick walls have been softened with climbers & structural plants, which will provide year round interest and have helped create a real variety of heights, beautiful views and small friendly spaces. The installation of hard wearing artificial grass has turned a once muddy grassy patch into a lawn that can be enjoyed all year round.  Old, cracked paths of various widths and surfaces have been harmonised in size and material, giving a real sense of identity and calmness to the space. Alongside this, the beautiful water feature donated by our friends at Low Carbon Oxford North, has been particularly helpful in aiding relaxation and mental wellbeing. Our eco-group students are planning to create a large bug house & fundraise for bird boxes with cameras to go into the garden so we keep improving the space.

This garden has only been made possible by the kind donations made by parents, funds raised by students and staff, and the financial support and expertise given by our friends at Hadingham and Kirk, who constructed the garden over the summer. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who have helped with this project , which will have a deep and lasting effect on all who use the school.
